How to get the most out of the new My ND

The new My ND has several great new features. In case you haven't discovered them all for yourself, here are a few highlights:

1. When creating a recipe, you can now include preparation instructions (or the URL of an online recipe)! You'll find a field at the top of the page, above the ingredient list. Recipeinstructions

You can even add instructions to recipes that you created before the launch of My ND! Simply click on the orange "edit" icon to the right of an existing recipe to add preparations instructions.

Edit

2. You no longer have to add a food to your food list in order to add it to a recipe or to your tracking report.  On every food detail page, you'll see an orange block of menu options that allow you to add that food to your tracking report, a comparison report, a new recipe, or to your list of favorite foods.

Menu

The same options are also available from search result pages. Click on the orange plus sign next to any food in your list of search results and a menu will appear.

A few more important notes about working  with the new recipe tool:

1. It used to be that if you edited a recipe and changed the name,  a second recipe entry would be created with the new name and the original recipe would be retained without changes. Now, if you edit the name of an existing recipe, it will no longer be saved as a new recipe. Instead, the existing recipe will be saved under the new name.

2. If you save a new recipe with the same name as an existing recipe, you will have two (different) recipes saved under the same name.  If you end up with multiple recipes with the same name, you can edit them to provide distinctive names, so you can tell them apart.

Coming soon:

  • Add multiple foods to recipes and tracking reports at one time
  • Edit quantities and servings sizes of ingredients before adding to recipes and tracking reports

Hi, Monica.

What's the latest on the upgrade that will allow us to add multiple ingredients at one time?

I love the new set-up of the pantry and the create-recipe section. I was getting quite frustrated with scrolling constantly through long alphabetical lists of ingredients. Good change.

I love the new ND! It has recaptured my interest for tracking my foods! But none of the images are displaying, like the nutrition label, the nutrient pyramid, the fullness factor chart, the nutrient wheel... do I have a flash problem, or did you remove these images?

Barbara,

as noted in the post above, we are working on an upgrade that will allow you to add multiple ingredients at one time.

Carol,

that's a good idea. We'll work on that.

Paula,

a journaling tool that will allow multiple day tracking is on the way!

I would like to be able to be able to create a report which shows the tracking over a period of time. For example, I would like to be able to see the results of each day at the end of a week, to compare nutritional data from day to day. Is this possible?

I just found this site and I LOVE it. I've been diagnosed with pre diabetes and I am learning about how to balance what I am eating. This site is a WEALTH of information and so easy to use. I love the customization feature that allows me to take foods I have on hand and enter them into the system.

Thank you!

Love the quick-start, add this list of foods. Makes setting up my diet foods SOOO much easier. Now, how about a gluten-free option? Deleting foods is a slow and painful was to go.....and I sure don't want to see bread and pasta listed in my food list since they still whisper my name in passing....

It is still painful to add ingredients, one at a time, sorting out units for each one. How about allowing a paste of an ingredient list, followed by a dialog to clarify unrecognized ingredients?

How about a mobile version of Nutrition Data? Also, can you find out why a user can't drill down into the data of www.nutritiondata.com using www,skweezer.com or www.mlvb.net (Mobile Leap)? The Nutrition Data site is filled with too much Adobe Flash. The systems of some users can't handle Flash very well. It would make ND more user-friendly if a mobile option existed in order to bypass it. Thanks.
