A newcomer here seconding Salina's motion--would love to be able to share my custom entries with others and access some of theirs.

Also -- maybe add the option to enter each nutrient as either mg or mcg on custom entries--with an automated conversion process.

Love the concept behind the site-- excited to see what you do with it.

I would like to be able to compare several foods' nurtition facts side-by-side.

ND's a great site and getting better. I'd like to see:

1/ 0g quantities allowed
2/ custom data fields
3/ color wheel chart
I like to review the color spectrum of fruits and vegetables I've eaten. Some red, some blue, dark green, etc. It's an easy way to cover all the interesting phytonutrients, etc.

Mamazeta,

select any foods in your pantry and click "compare" to see how they stack up nutritionally.

Salina,

thanks for your suggestions. Click on the "Advanced" tab of the custom entry tool to enter in detailed nutrition information. See also this post for more: http://blog.nutritiondata.com/ndblog/2008/05/check-out-our-n.html

Is there a place to compare food items - such as fresh pineapple and canned pineapple?
thanks

I would like the ability to input more detail when entering custom foods. The information for amino acid profiles, breakdowns of fats (ie omega 3, 6 etc), other minerals etc. are available for some foods and I would like to input those details when I make my own custom entries. Ideally, I would also like the site to then provide amino acid profiles and inflammation factor assessments, when those details are provided.

Additionally, do you /does your site review our custom entries for ideas/information on what to add to the general database? Can we 'tag' our entries to be available for others? Whatever food I am entering, I'm sure I'm not the only one buying and eating it; I'm sure others have entered many of the same items using the custom entry tool and it would be great if we could save each other some work.

Also, I try to exclude manufactured foods (ie-from Kraft, or McD. or Starucks), but somehow they seem to sneak in on my searches. They take up a lot of time/space. Is there a more effective way of screening them out? (I already have my preferences set to exclude them)

Thanks, and keep up the great work. This site is a wonderful resource!

I would like to be able to search for purine in foods. My husband needs a low purine diet and it isn't listed on this site.

I love the nutrient search tool! It is extremely useful for deciding what foods to eat. Here are some ways to improve it:

let us search in more than one food category without going to the preferences page.

Let us choose more than 3 nutrients to search for, and let us limit the amount for a particular nutrient. For example, "sodium less than 500 mg" or "Vitamin C at least 30 mg"

3 things I thought of recently...

1. Add the "Amino Acid Score" to the Food Category Explorer.

2. When using the Food Entry Tool, add a drop down selection bar where you can choose what food category it belongs to (ie. Fruits and Fruit Juices, Nut and Seed Products, etc.)...

3. After completing #2, it should be be possible to incorporate custom entries when using the Nutrient Search Tool and when using the Food Category Explorer.

Thanks Monica :)

Duck and Jay,

We hear you! We have lots of improvements to the pantry in the works with an eye toward making it easier to navigate and find what you are looking for.

As a stopgap suggestion, you can use Ctrl-F to pop up a search box on any page, which is very helpful for finding a particular food in your pantry (rather than scroll, scroll, scroll).

Miss Anne,

You can do exactly what you're describing using our Total Consumption Report. Add your daily intake to your running total and you'll see how you're intake compares to your goals and what foods will help you fill in the gaps. For more details see: http://nutritiondata.com/help/pantry-help

Caitlin,

to convert minerals to percent of RDA, you need to know what the RDA for that mineral is, and its different for each one. If you go to preferences (under tools in the main nav), you'll see the RDA for each mineral displayed.

Or, if you go to our new, improved custom entry tool (also under Tools in the main nav) you can enter the amounts of minerals into the "advanced" tab and then toggle to the "basic" tab to see them converted into %RDA. (The same works in reverse.)

I would love to see a detracting daily needs calculator.. ie, once you've established a daily needs goal you could plug in your daily intake (or individual meals etc) and have it subtracted from that day's 'needs' so as to better track foods/enzymes/minerals/whatever you need to focus on, keep an even keel if you're eating for specific goals, and so on.

What I would like is an activities tracker that tallies up weekly and monthly totals of various exercises and intensity.
I also find the pantry very difficult to use. I don't have time to enter everything I eat. I tried to combine all the pantries but it wouldn't work. And why can't you do a search within your own pantry so it'll take you right to where you want to be, isntead of having to scroll, scroll, scroll.
It's a thorough site, but a very tediously time consuming site.
The information is good, just not so easy to use.

I need to know how to convert mg of minerals to % of RDA

Posted by: Jayjay | Jul 5, 2008 12:34:51 PM

while your at it make the "pantry" more user friendly. When adding food to your 'total consumption'; there should be a button for 'clear all', 'back to pantry', 'view total consumtion'. You should be able to change values of ammount of foods, for example instead of writing 0.5 * 100g yogurt there shoud be a button for 1/2 or something.

Michele,

you can searc for foods with high or low IF Ratings by going to the Food Category Explorer (you'll find it under Tools in the main navigation bar). At the bottom of the explorer, you'll find a drop down menu that allows you to search by IF Rating.

Thank you for this wonderful resource. I am slowly losing my joints to arthritis even though I do not have rheumatoid. I would love to see a separate category or listing of highly anti inflammatory foods. I find it frustrating to have to keep trying to find them in the index by searching through each individual food. Thanks.
