As far as I know, the cholesterol-lowering effect of oatmeal are attributable to the oat bran. I'm not aware of another compound. But you learn something new every day. See if your friend can come up with a name for the chemical and I'll do more research!

When discussing the cholesterol-lowering effect of oatmeal and oat bran, I told a friend that oat bran was a better choice because it has more soluble fiber per serving. But my friend said that it wasn't just the soluble fiber. She maintained that that there was a chemical in oatmeal that actually helps lower cholesterol better than oat bran. Which is correct?

Im thinking Ill need to print this out MULTIPLE TIMES and tape it up all around the domicile----but it might actually (or some of it :)) get made!!
