How to Eat Healthy During the Holidays
Do you ever feel like you are the only one trying to manage your weight successfully at this time of year? Certainly with over 67% of the population overweight it really is easy to feel like this. Even as a nutritionist I feel frustrated at a social event with so much food around.
Many people just give up because of this ongoing stream of frustration. You may end up gaining some or all of your weight back. My advice is don’t give up! But, more than any time of year you need to be realistic about what you can handle. Strive only to maintain what you have already lost. I actually tell my clients that this is like ”dress rehearsal” for when you get to your ideal weight in maintenance. When you can maintain during this time of year you are already a success and what you learn during this time will be even more valuable for when you are at your goal weight. And when January begins you will not be beating yourself up and asking yourself “Why did I let myself do that?” (Check Nutrition Data's Daily Needs Calculator to determine how calories you need to maintain (or lose) your weight.

I agree with you. I started keeping a journal of all the foods I eat every day on everyday.com. It helps me see how many calories I am eating per meal. I found out that I wasn't eating enough in the morning, which made me gorge out at night. I now eat oatmeal in the morning which helps me feel more satisfied through out the day. I also keep track of how many calories I burn at the gym. I feel that by having to write it down, I am accountible for every bit and every activity. I have lost 5lbs. already and look foward to loosing more and this time keeping it off.
