Start Thinking Turkey

With Thanksgiving right around the corner it is time to start planning how you are going to stick to your weight loss plan when the average person consumes around 3,000 calories at this one meal.

So let's start with turkey...

Decide for yourself how much turkey you are going to be having.
If you use a food scale weigh out 3-4 ounces, if not approximate your serving size to be about the size of a deck of cards.

It does not matter if you have dark meat or light meat:
Per ounce roasted light meat turkey has 44 calories, 1g fat, and 8g protein
Per ounce roasted dark meat turkey has 52 calories, 2g fat, and 8g protein
As you can see they are very similar in calories and fat - just remember to remove the skin before eating since that is where excess calories and fat are.

Need a great turkey recipe - try Herb-Rubbed Turkey with Roasted Garlic Gravy

It will still be a great feast because you have numerous other great tasting food items to consume besides just the turkey alone!!!

Wow... not much of a feast is it? Afterall it's just one day of the year.
