It's Just One Day

J0411771 Thanksgiving is just one day of real celebration and yet for all the elaborate plans and foods you would think it’s a lot more than just a special one day holiday. Don’t misunderstand me it’s a great holiday to celebrate with family and friends but too much emphasis is put on the food rather than the real significance of the day.

So on this one day how much does a person generally consume in one meal anyway? Well an average turkey day meal is about 1500 calories according to MSNBC News. That’s almost enough for a whole day’s worth of calories for most women. Ouch! And that’s probably without all the extras like appetizers (at least 50 to 200 calories for a small serving). Then there’s alcohol, which MSNBC only counts one glass in the total (at a measly four to five ounce per serving. And who has just one glass?).

Most health authorities tell us to “eat in moderation” something I’ve told my clients for years. But one more important thing MSNBC stated worth mentioning is, “A little moderation may mean not feeling guilty — or the need to unbutton your pants at the end of the meal.” And I’d add to that, not literally feeling sick, bloated and miserable (both physically and emotionally) from eating so much rich food, just what MSNBC News calls a "gut-busting affair." It's just one day but how do you want to feel at the end of it?
