"I’m a Beginner, So Can't I Just Do the Same Circuit Every Day?"

Im_a_beginner_so_cant_i_just_do_theIn response to yesterday’s post on "how many times a week should I do the same exercises?" there was a question from a reader just starting out at the gym…

They asked, "I’m a beginner, so can't I just do the same circuit every day?"

The answer is no.

Even if you are a true beginner and you're just repeating the same circuit every workout (which is not recommended as your best choice to losing weight) at least give yourself a day off in between the same circuit workouts.

Why?

Your body needs time to rest and recover from the exercises you just did the day before. That doesn't mean you can’t workout the next day, but you should choose alternative resistance exercises, or pick your favorite piece of cardiovascular equipment to complete 30 minutes of cardio or interval sprints.

Following this formula, you will continue to force your body to burn fat, while allowing your muscles to recover before you work them again in the same way.

Hi Anna,

The abdominal muscles are no different and should not be worked to fatigue daily. There's no extra benefit from working them every day... I will write a more detailed post this week letting you know how to more effectively exercise your abs.
