Caffeine and Weight Loss - 2
Yesterday I started discussing some factors around coffee that may interfere with your weight loss efforts. Today I will discuss a few more things about this topic.
Coffee can directly stimulate the adrenal glands which are responsible for producing our stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. If coffee consumption is habitual and/or if you already have a lot of stress in your life, this is more abuse to your adrenal glands contributing to a condition called adrenal exhaustion where fatigue is unending. Stress can be a factor in losing weight.
As I mentioned yesterday, coffee imbalances blood sugar and initiates the stress response ("fight or flight”) releasing adrenaline, which is normally used to combat the “saber tooth tiger that may be chasing you.” Of course there is no real tiger chasing after you hopefully. But the coffee still stimulates the response even if there's no danger around. Shortly after, you crash and burn, “craving” energy to get you going again. And usually the energy you crave manifests in carrot sticks and celery right?
Lastly excessive caffeine consumption leaches out important minerals like magnesium, potassium, sodium and B1, and other nutrients needed by the body for weight loss, strong bones and calm nerves.
So I repeat, if you drink coffee consume it in moderation, for your health and weight loss.
