Should Men and Women Lift the Same Weights?

ShouldmenandwomenliftthesameweightsSimply put, yes!

Now for all the ladies out there before you get defensive and say I don’t want turn into a man by lifting heavy weight, hear me out…

I’m not suggesting you need to lift the same EXACT weights as a guy who weighs 100 pounds more than you do, but you certainly do need to lift a weight proportionately challenging to your body weight and strength.

There’s no way you should think there are “girl’s weights” and “guys weights.” It doesn’t work that way… I know women who can beat most guys in a chin-up contest and out squat them too. And believe me, these are some petite 5’3” girls who only weigh about 122-127 pounds.

So keep in mind that lifting a challenging weight isn’t going to make you bulky, but it will make you strong and tone up your body. Also, women should have no fear of adding too much muscle anyway, since they don’t have enough of the male hormone, testosterone, to be create any substantial lean body mass.

I’ll put it another way. If you are looking to transform the shape of your body and you’re not lifting weights in addition to your focused nutrition you are simply short changing your results.
