“How Much Weight Should I Be Lifting?”
One of the most common questions I get when people see my exercise of the week or video
demonstrations is, “how much weight should I be lifting?”
Well, you’ll be happy to hear the answer is straight forward and easy to implement.
When you are completing a certain exercise you need to ask yourself this question: “If I really want my body to change the shape it’s in currently, what do I need to do to accomplish that?”
The answer is give your body a reason to change!
That means you must challenge yourself to push past the level you are currently at now. You need to lift a little heavier weight or complete a few additional reps. You MUST not settle for just going through the motions and lifting weights that don’t pose any challenge.
If you want to burn body fat, tone your muscles, and reshape your body you need to work at it. It doesn’t have to be long or back-breaking workouts to get the job done, but you do need to give yourself a little kick in the pants…
Good luck and get moving!

Hi Peta,
If we're talking about the Tabata formula for fat loss I would only complete one of those at the end of an advanced group class or resistance workout.
If the Tabata is really done how it is meant to be done at an all out pace, then very few people can finish it in general... so I wouldn't worry too much about how many of those 4 minute workouts you should do.
However, a 4-minute "quad-set" can be done 4 times in 1 workout to get really great results.
Good luck and thanks for reading!

Hi Stephen I love your work. I am really interested in the interval training 4 minute workouts. My question is how many times do you repeat the workout as my classes run for one hour. Can I repeat for 30 minutes and then cotinue with more toning and ab work. /also I sdtill getots of complaints about star jumps and burpees even whenI modify them.

I'm 40 and I work out at the gym 6 days a week and play hockey the day I take off from the gym. I had a serious knee injury playing hockey and after surgery that required the cutting and using of my hamstring tendon to anchor my patella, I can only do stairs, elliptical and skating for cardio. (No running.)
I'm trying to get my legs leaner; I currently measure 20% body fat. I do 45-60 minutes of cardio 6 days a week and weight train two days a week in addition for about 30 minutes.
Can you offer me some new ideas to get the fat off my legs?
thanks.
Lee Ann
