Foods that Really Aren't Diet Foods
It always amazes me what manufacturers do to try to fool the public in order to make a buck. Here are my biggest pet peeves.
One is the bran muffin. It sounds virtuous enough, high fiber and all, right? Well, I've seen some that have as little as two grams of fat. I've seen others as fattening as cake.
And speaking of cake…. You know those so-called muffins you see in the stores? Well all they are, is, well cake. Some have over 400 calories! That’s not my idea of a muffin.
Another issue that bothers me is "lean" ground turkey meat. For example when we go out we think we are ordering something lower in fat when that may not be the case at all. Many turkey burgers are made from the dark meat, fat, and even the skin is thrown in. These are not low fat and can have as much fat as a regular fatty hamburger. This holds true at the grocery store as well. There are three different kinds of turkey meat: regular, lower fat, and really low fat. Check your labels, if your ground turkey states it has three grams of fat per ounce then it is low fat. Vegetarian burgers may also have many of the same issues as additional fat may be added. And, sometimes they have more carbohydrates than protein. Check ND's Tools and use the Nutrient Search Tool to make some comparisons.

Great Post! Very Informative. Makes me think twice because I always order turkey burgers instead of beef. I always thought that I was making a better decision by eating turkey, but I guess we really don't know what we are eating unless we buy it and cook it ourselves.
