No More Weight Loss Delusions
The other day I was discussing honesty and calorie counting. Another area of delusion with dieters has to do with the way we "fib" to ourselves. Some people say, "I think I have a thyroid problem," or "all my family is overweight, I'm meant to be overweight." Don’t misunderstand me, these can be very valid reasons as to why it's so challenging to lose weight but don’t make it an excuse not to do something about it.
For thyroid issues read my previous blog on a slow thyroid. I've helped many people lose weight with sluggish thyroids and doing so without medication. And yes, being overweight does tend to run in families but it doesn’t make it impossible to lose weight either, although it does make it harder. No, it's not fair but that is the reality and you just cannot make it an excuse if you really want to lose weight.
No more delusions. Fix the problem once for all and lose your weight. We are here to help support you in every way we can! Monica can provide you with just about any question you need answered around nutrition, Dana provides you with great recipe ideas, Steve provides you with exercise tips and of course I'm here. Elanie, I couldn't agree more with your suggestion of keeping a food diary. I started one about a month ago and was very surprised at what I found. At any rate, a food diary helped me be more accountable for the things I ate.

Hi Valerie, I applaud your great efforts to continue to exercise and eat well despite the lack of progress. There are so many reasons why people do not lose weight! Have you actually kept a food diary, weighed, and measured your food for a week to see if you are on target with your food intake? Check my previous blogs in the archives (to the right of this page)and look for clues where you may be off. January has a lot of tips on how to lose weight and June 29th and June 30th also have some great insights. Let me know what you find.

Weight-loss calculaters tell me that I need to consume 2300-2600 cal/day, but I really struggle to keep weight off despite working out 6 days a week. I currently eat between 1400-1800/day and my weight has stayed between 166-171 at 5'6 (female), so I know I need to lose at least 10 lbs to be healthier. My doctor ran tests and found no medical reason and is stumped. Her only suggestion is to see an nutritionist. I eat well, making most food from scratch and using healthy ingrediants. I usually have 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. Any thoughts?
