Can you lose weight without counting calories?
From my experience keeping a food diary, so you track what you eat, has shown the best results for weight loss, but that may not be the best way for you to take off the pounds. Lucy Danziger, Editor-in-Chief of SELF magazine, lost about 30 pounds over the past year and never counted calories.
Here are Lucy's tips to taking off the weight...
- Have at least 1 piece of fruit and a serving of vegetables at every meal aiming for 9 serving a day. Fruit tossed into yogurt or cereal for breakfast, or as a snack, and salad with lunch and dinner are easy ways to get all those servings in.
- Snacks on protein packed foods such as cheese or nuts to help curb your appetite and eliminate the craving for cookies and cake. Hummus and vegetables is one of her favorites (mine too!).
- Drink water and eliminate sugary beverages.
- Watch portion sizes. Use a smaller plate and divide it up into sections to mange portions of protein and grains. Here is more about dividing up your plate for weight loss.
- Eat often so you don't allow yourself to get too hungry - that is when you get, as Lucy puts it, "hangry" which is hungry and angry and you make poor food choices. So don't allow yourself to go more than 5 hours without having something to eat.
All of these tips are so helpful for weight loss whether or not you decide to keep a food diary. What are some of your tips that have helped you take off the weight?
