Are you eating healthy on a budget?

J0432821 Last week I posted several blogs on eating right on a budget. It doesn't look like the food prices are going down anytime soon so please keep reading! I've still got more tips to share again today:

  • This was mentioned by Monica when food prices first started to escalate but it bears repeating and elaborating on: Extend your protein dollars by eating two or more meatless meals weekly by including more beans, legumes and tofu. Wean yourself off the meat by adding only a little animal protein to the dish and gradually taper off.  Many of these vegetarian stews, soups, chilies can be stretched out further by adding more vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, celery, parsley (or cilantro) zucchini, etc. Most people need more veggies anyway.
  • Used dried milk powder for recipes, then use fluid milk for actual drinking.
  • If you purchase fresh fruits and vegetables purchase them by the bag instead of individually.
  • Buy what's in season. It's usually more economical.

Whew! I hope I've been able to give you some good ideas to save costs and still maintain healthy eating! Readers if I've missed any please share them with us.
