Decoding the Nutrition Facts Label - Part 1

Yesterday I posted about how keeping a food diary helps with weight loss. So now that you have started keeping track of what you are eating I wanted to help you decode the Nutrition Facts Label so you can can keep a more detailed list of what you are eating during the course of the day.

The first place to start on the label is the serving size and the number of servings per package:

Serving_size_3

Serving sizes are standard to help you compare similar foods.

The size of the serving influences the amount of calories and nutrients listed on the label.

Pay attention to the serving size and how many servings are in the package and ask yourself: How many servings am I eating?

When keeping your food diary start writing down the serving size of the foods you are eating so you become more familiar with the serving sizes of your favorite foods.

Tomorrow I will decode more of the Nutrition Facts Label.

A lot of people overlook this small but important fact. And when we really paying attention, we sometimes find that we are eating a 6 servings meal in 4 servings. Hmm no wonder this weight loss action plan is not working

Another great pitfall in labels is the x % fat. I mean what does that really mean?
