Decoding the Nutrition Facts Label - Part 4

Daily_value_2
The Percent Daily Value (the purple section) is based on the daily recommendation for that nutrient for a 2,000 calorie diet. Since you may not know exactly how many calories you consume each day use the Percent Daily Value as a guide.

If a value is 5% or less consider that food low in that specific nutrient, but if the value is 20% or more consider that food high in that specific nutrient. You can use the Percent Daily Value to help you make food comparisons.

If weight loss is your ultimate goal the parts of the Nutrition Facts Label you should focus on are serving sizes, calories, and nutrients - keeping fat low and fiber high.

Let me know how learning the parts of the Nutrition Facts Label has made an impact on your food choices and your weight loss.

It is a good guide but the one thing that can sabotage weight loss is that you can't tell if it is loaded with MSG. There are at least 25 different names for MSG and that is what makes people addicted to certain foods. Knowing the percentages does make it easier for weight loss purposes but if you are addicted to certain kinds of food that you can't help eating, then there is an excellent chance it has MSG!
