The nutrients here are the ones we usually don't get enough of. Eating enough of these nutrients can improve your health and may help reduce the risk of some diseases.

  • Getting enough calcium may reduce the risk of osteoporosis
  • Eating a diet high in dietary fiber helps with bowel function
  • A diet that contains fiber and is low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers

If you are working on weight loss Dietary Fiber is going to be a very important part of the Nutrition Facts Label. Fiber is what is going to keep you feeling satisfied and can prevent you from overeating. You should look for foods that have 3 or more grams of fiber - especially in breads and cereals.

Fiber is very important but don't forget to drink plenty of water especially if you take fiber supplements. I found out the hard way that if you are dehydrated it can have the opposite effect and constipate you!

You do need these in your diet, but when looking to lose weight you can definitely cut down on them to some extent.
