Excuses or Reasons?
Everyday clients come in for one reason or another as to why they haven’t complied with their food plan. I gently question them, "Is that an excuse or a reason for not following your plan?" A reason implies a solid explanation for a given behavior. An excuse is more of a rationalization for it.
Is there ever a good reason to overeat? I don’t think so. Sometimes there is a reason to eat the "wrong" foods because you may not always have control over the choices you have in front of you. Frequently I have some clients that have a social calendar that would make a roadrunner spin! They lose weight every week because they watch how much they eat despite the fact that the choices aren’t always in their control. The rest of the time they follow their plan.
You have to take responsibility for your food intake. Absolutely no one else can do that for you regardless of a persuasive spouse or hostess, or the temptation of a tantalizing food.
Examine your deviations from your food plan. Are they just an attempt so you can be free to eat as much as you want?
