Back to Basics for Weight Control and Diabetes Prevention

J0432821 Weight gain and diabetes go hand in hand.  Healthy eating and exercise prevent this epidemic. Nations that adapt the America notions of fast foods, easily prepared processed microwave foods, high intake of soft drinks, and neglected exercise, may eventually find themselves with weigh gain and diabetes.

An example of this was cited by Jeffrey Bland, a Washington state-based biochemist and holistic nutritionist. Many nations throw away their original ethnic whole food diets, adapt Western Ways of diet and lifestyle and destroy their health in the process. Bland states: "All the large national data in Asia as well as the United States show there are fewer meals being prepared from home. We are raising a real generation of youth that don't have any familiarity with cooking." This results in weight gain because of the quality and quantity of foods typically found in restaurants and fast foods. Cooking at home we have more control.

Most nations need to get back to the basics with real whole food again. With all the conveniences of farmers markets, fresh frozen foods (without all the additives) and even prepackaged veggies cut up and ready to go, there are no more excuses. And of course Dana offers shortcuts with simple healthy cooking ideas, and Steve covers easy ways to implement activity into a busy lifestyle. ND has the answers. You just have to take action!

Hi Stacy. You have some major concerns and I applaud your resolve to eat healthy and lose weight without surgery. I would scour ND's web site for all your answers. They are there. The basics are a healthy food plan with the correct ratio of fats, carbs, and protein, at least eight glasses of water daily, and consistent exercise. Start with ND's Daily Needs Calculator to determine your calorie level. I would Google "farmer's markets" in your area to find the one nearest you.

Ok so what do you do when you already have diabetes, are overweight, your gall bladder is giving out and you have a fatty liver? I like the info I have already, but my doctor wants me to have gastric bypass, how can I get around doing this and how do I find local farmers markets?

A health food advocate named Bland? How funny!

Still, thanks for the info.
