Late Night Eating and Weight Loss

J0410116 Lately I've heard controversial remarks about late night eating. Is it all right to eat a meal late or not? Well, it depends. The bottom line is if you are trying to lose weight it still has to do with how many total calories you consume and burn off throughout the day to create a calorie deficit of 500 calories (the amount needed to lose a pound a week). That's the equation. I strongly urge you check ND's Daily Needs Calculator to find the actual amount of calories you need to consume to lose weight. Guessing isn't enough.

So you eat a calorie regulated breakfast and lunch and it's late when you get home. (You're late because you went to the gym right?) By eating a modest dinner you may still lose weight as long as it's not too many calories. But keep in mind I really don’t like to see people eat too late at night because your body is getting ready to wind down. It needs to rejuvenate at that time. It can't do that as well if it's too busy digesting a heavy meal. (It might also disrupt your sleep.)

Another issue is of course, are you consuming pizza or other high fat calorie laden meals right before you go to bed?  It doesn't take a brain surgeon to realize you probably won't lose weight doing that. Try keeping that kind of meal down to being low calorie and low fat!
