Beyond Feelings and Emotional Eating
Yesterday I discussed some strategies you can take to avoid emotional eating. Here's one specific feeling that is sorely neglected and what we might be eating over. It is fear. It isn’t just about being worried or having anxiety, although those feelings certainly impact emotional eating. It has to do with the underlying emotion which is usually some kind of fear. Those are the feelings we fail to identify and deal with.
A simple example of this might be someone who comes home from work feeling unappreciated and over worked by his boss. Sure a person can carry a lot of resentment and frustration by not being properly acknowledged by his senior. But if a person digs into his feelings a little deeper, he might just find out that not only is his work being taken for granted, but there might be an underlying fear he might lose his job because his work won't be good enough and he can be easily replaced.
These kinds of feelings run deep and are more challenging to figure out. It's one of many reasons why journaling can be a great tool for forging these inner issues out, especially if you continue to eat repetitiously over the same issues.
The truth really can set you free from emotional eating.
