Quitting Week?

J0433161 It's three weeks into January. How many of you are still sticking it out with your New Year's Resolutions? This is typically "quitter's week" when all the newness of a program seems to wear thin. Many a diet fails here.

If you are really thinking about giving up, now is a good time to sit down and figure out what's happening. Where do you typically fall down? Is it because of emotional eating, not planning your meals, losing your motivation, boredom with your food plan, or being too sore from exercising? Whatever it is it's important to figure it out before you quit. (Be sure and check the variety of this month's blogs from Dana, Steve, and myself. We have been covering all these areas in ND's special weight loss section you are reading now.)

For now think your situation through and get some real clarity on it:

  • Write about  it.
  • Talk to several objective people about it. What is it about the situation that's making it problematic? Be specific.
  • What are your thoughts and feelings around it? Are they rational or unrealistic? Are they reflective of the truth of the situation? What are these thoughts and feelings telling you? What is it that you need or want?

Later this week we'll look at finding the solutions.
