Should You Workout Twice a Day?
Dr. Rob Huizenga from the Biggest Loser recommends this approach to losing weight, but is it right for you?
It's difficult to argue with the rational that the more you workout, the more calories you will burn which in turn should lead to weight loss. However, how realistic is dedicating two workouts per day?
For the average American, exercising isn't even a word in their vocabulary. Less than 20% of all Amerians workout and those that do usually only find two days per week, not "two-a-days," to fit in a fitness routine.
While I'm all for more activity and less sitting around all day, I think we should first start with exercising 5 times per week and then worry about two-a-days down the road for those who are in need of additional weight loss.

i workout 4 times a day 6 days a week. i run 5 to 12 miles in the morning. then i proceed to calisthenics or plyometrics. Then i do my Weight Lifting. The end of my day consists of a Ruck Sack March or a 2000 Meter Swim. My experience with exercise is you need to learn to crawl before you can walk and you need walk before you can run then you need to run in order to run hard. Im a Green Beret. I do this for my profession. If you Choose to do two a days or more. You must allow recovery. So do one Group of Muscles one day and the others the next so one rests will another works. Then i suggest eat a lot of calories becasue youll need them. Stretch constently, and SLEEP. Dont for get Supplements like protein, EFAs, and a Vitamin Supp. I am 6'2 225 and 25 yrs old. Last thing listen to your body, and quality over quanity.

Do any of you have real jobs? Just kidding. I only make this comment because my roommate is an attorney, but his workload is ridiculously slow. This boded well for me, and I've picked up two-a-days recently. Best piece of advice so far was from the supersize analogy by Hypchyk. "Super Sizing in exercising = injuries/fatigue." It's true. You can do "quality" exercises without pushing yourself to the point of over-exhaustion. Even if it's another 20-minute run or elliptical workout in the evening, that's better than nothing.

I workout 2 times a day. Sometimes 3!
2 mile run, followed with weightlifting for at least an hour.
I take a break, for a few hours,
Then I usually do cardio work bike, elipitical, and a little more jogging. Mebby 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours.
Sometimes I even get in a swim on the weekends..
Hey you got to work for it.. But all in all its FUN. IF it wasn't fun I wouldn't do it al all.

Thank you for the insightful comment. I'm all for people adding in as much walking as they can handle per day...

I think we should approach the subject of two a days like we approach the subject of combo meals... how many people out there order just the burger...sans combo. Hardly any. Well, if we've gotta have the fries and drink with your meal, why can't we look at exercise the same way?
I made a commitment to two a days. And I love it. Same approach as a combo meal... just don't SuperSize it. SuperSize in Food = fatter faster. Super Sizing in exercising = injuries/fatigue.
Focus on quality controlled workouts twice a day. Go walk at 3 -3.5 miles an hour for 30 minutes, hit the weights at DOABLE amounts for 30 minutes... and do this twice a day. The end result is you feel even better than working out just once a day...not tired, fatigued or worn out.
People can eat out twice a day, but not work out twice a day? Same concept ..if you eat out twice a day and make healthy choices, it's not bad for you. If you work out twice a day and are conscious of what you're doing (and not OVER doing it...dont' go from couch potato do trying to bench 200lbs overnight)....you'll see results faster.
Losing weight is simple math...expend more calories than you consume. Working out not once...but twice a day...hmmm...mathmatically makes sense to me!
I get up an hour earlier and instead of watching TV, I walk. not that hard.
