Planning for Success

J0430467 The other day I was asked, "What is one of the biggest mistakes dieters make?"
I believe one huge issue is simple planning. Frequently I see failure because a person refuses to plan for meals.  "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!"

Perhaps this is an overwhelming chore for most people especially if you work and have a family. The first thing to do

is shift your attitude about it.

Instead of thinking of planning as a time consuming chore, look at it as something that simplifies your life.  It can actually conserve precious minutes in a hectic week because everything you need to make a healthy meal is there. It saves you the burden of having to make tiresome choices in a hectic week and  It may even unburden you of any guilt when you do make a wrong choice, succumb to take-out or whatever is in the refrigerator.

Think of it like this. It’s all about habit. Remember the first day of work at a new job? You felt uncomfortable, confused, and overwhelmed in a new situation. But after a month or so the new environment was not an issue anymore.  It's that way with any kind of lifestyle change. You just need to remember that it takes time and a little effort for something to become a healthy habit. Start with planning just a few days at a time and make them really simple.
