Food Events or People Events?

J0289904 New Years parties are currently being planned. Throughout the last few months, Dana, Steve, and I have discussed various strategies to support your success over the holidays. It might benefit you to reread them if you are weary of the temptations of the "eating events" on News Years Eve.

I know how easy it is to get comfortable now and just say, "The year's almost over and I'll start fresh on the first." But get this, food is not fun (food is nourishment and fuel for our bodies) even if it's common for people to relate to it as a form of recreation. It's even unfortunate that most of the world views social events as eating feasts! Here are some thoughts to reflect on for a minute.

How many of you actually have unpleasant memories of painful eating binges at a party? The idea that extreme amounts of food will bring you total delight and pleasure is simply an illusion. Overeating does not feel good no matter how you look at it, both physically and emotionally. So many times the shame and guilt we carry in these kinds of experiences weigh heavily in our hearts. Now reflect on the last time you got through a social event without overeating and how good you felt after that experience! Which feels better? Which one will you choose?

Instead experience pleasure with your heart and mind in connectedness and harmony with people you are interacting with at a party. Practice moderation with your food without feeling deprived.  All this is when a party is truly fun.
