Black and White Diet Mentality

J0411830 The holidays are right around the corner. Unfortunately socializing around excessive food is the American way to celebrate all life's special events. But it doesn't have to mean the end of healthy eating and weight management efforts.

Most people tend to think in black and white for the holiday months. This is the "off and on"  diet  mentality that leads many dieter astray. This is one way I know who will be successful with weight management during the holiday season.

I suggest making maintenance the goal this holiday season. This way you can still have your cake and eat it too, so to speak. Stay on track by making the commitment to get on the scale every single week (or every other day ) to make sure your weight isn’t creeping up. You might use ND's Daily Needs Calculator to see how many calories you need to maintain your weight.

Don’t forget to acknowledge your hard work for maintaining your weight and plan on giving yourself a meaningful non-food reward after the season. Every time you are thinking of over-indulging, make a mental picture of that reward.
